The phrase Ayurveda means "knowledge of life." While it focuses primarily on wellness, this science works to balance us internally and externally. According to the ancient wisdom principles, you will realize that our life is completely interconnected.
Just like the five elements of fire, air, ether, earth, and water contribute to the creation in and around us; the five senses act as the gateways between our external and internal systems. Ayurveda subdivides such elements into three primary functional principles and energy present within the body. The English dictionary does not have any words to explain such principles. Hence, the Sanskrit words, such as Kapha, Pitta, and Vata, are used to relate to these combinations.
Gunas or doshas in Ayurveda
The experiences, we have in daily life, whether it is an emotion or a thought, or a physical substance, comes with specific qualities. In the Sanskrit language, according to the Ayurveda texts of ancient times, such qualities are subdivided into different qualities, which are referred to as gunas.
Since they come in 10 opposite pairs, there is a total of 20 qualities. It is possible to represent everything in terms of such qualities or gunas, along with the doshas. The basis of Ayurveda depends on understanding whether there is a lack of the gunas or they are present in excessive amounts.
The insufficiency or adequacy of these gunas results in the dosha imbalance, thereby resulting in different diseases. Ayurveda refers to the science in which the opposite qualities are applied to re-harmonize the balance.
Principles of Ayurveda
The universal transformation principle is reflected in the digestive fire. It acts as the mediator between the external and internal systems responsible for converting the food items into waste and bodily tissues.
In Ayurveda, the agni of the human body is useful in digesting the toxins, which are revealed due to different external and internal stresses. Thus, it plays an integral role in assuring healthy mental and physical well-being.
Ayurveda best uses such basic principles to personalize the specific preventive wellness according to the constitution, which differs from one person to the other. Besides this, the Ayurvedic practitioners introduce the symptoms of different chronic and acute conditions and the symptoms, signs, and causes, following which they come up with unique holistic treatment protocols.
Branches of Ayurveda
Ayurveda is divided into eight branches, which are Vishagara Vairodh Tantra, which is related to Toxicology; Vajikarana which is about Fertility, Aphrodisiac Therapy, and Conception, Jarachikitsa/Rasayana, which includes Geriatrics and Rejuvenation, Bhuta Vidya, which relates to Psychiatry, Shalakya Tantra, which is related to Ear, Nose and Throat Treatment, Baalachikitsa or Pediatrics, Kaayachikitsa. Surgery or Shalya Tantra is not practiced across the US anymore.
Ayurveda introduces the most comprehensive cleansing protocol across the globe, which is referred to as panchakarma. Such kind of ancient practice makes the right use of five different therapies to remove and release the accumulated toxins from the issues, after which the gunas will come back to the right places in the body.
Through Ayurveda, it is possible to connect back to natural intelligence. It offers the solutions to get rid of the diseases through disconnect. Hence, the ancient medicine of Ayurveda assures a harmonic future for the world.
